Origin Spare Spools

Back by popular demand – 2023 sees the Original Origin back in action! 

 

ORIGIN –  “the point or place where something begins, arises, or is derived”

Let’s start in the beginning, back in January 2019 we began work on what would eventually become the Origin fly reels. Drawing up the initial concept art, and working out the dimensions and specifications that we wanted to design proved to be challenging. Combining all this with our experience in design and application we began rendering up the 3D models of the Origin reels. The new drag system that we had in mind was one area that we took our time on when it came to design and testing.

Sampling proved to be excellent and with only some minor changes being made to the initial design and drag system. In October 2019 we officially went into production and are extremely proud to offer South African fly anglers a fly reel that is not only affordable, but lightweight, durable and best of all designed right here in sunny South Africa!

The ORIGIN for REEL Fly Fishing represents a leap in technology and design and represents our vision for 2020 and beyond. 5.6.7 weight – WF7F+ | 125 yards 20lb regular backing (RFF tested with the Weighty WF7F which is a half weight up and is 100′ in length)

7.8.9 weight – WF9F+ | 125 yeards 20lb regular backing  (RFF tested with the Salty WF9F which is a very overweight taper and 100′ in length)

Caring for your Origin Fly Reel

Always rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each use and make sure to pay close attention to where the spool attaches to the frame as this is a moving part that needs to be rinsed properly to avoid any grit/build-up of debris Make sure your reel dries completely before packing it away and if you are using your Origin in salt water then be sure to grease/silicone spray regularly to avoid any corrosion due to poor cleaning. Looking after and cleaning your tackle properly is of paramount importance and can’t be stressed enough.
