P.T.N | 3.5mm Tungsten Flies

A selection of my personal favorite flies that have worked exceptionally well when heading out to local South African waters for both trout and yellowfish. These P.T.N or Pheasant Tail Nymph flies are all tied by hand at REEL Fly Fishing and feature the very best quality materials. We all have our own unique take on flies and within these common patterns, I have adjusted to my own personal preference through the years of experience. Each fly is tied off with a whip finish and a bit of UV head cement to ensure that they won’t fall apart after a few fish. The orange-headed black P.T.N variation is very effective for winter trout in streams, as well as for small-mouth yellowfish when the water is a bit off-color. The bright bead offsets well against the black silhouette of fly and can be fished throughout the day in medium flow waters, or as a small pattern in still waters when rainbow trout are heading into spawn times.

The Bushmans’ Blue P.T.N is another firm favorite and is usually used on the Bushman’s river with great effectiveness.
