STELLA — Tigerfish Fly

The STELLA is a streamlined tigerfish baitfish pattern designed to fish on the surface or just beneath it. Its profile, flash, and movement mimic a small, fleeing baitfish and create a subtle disturbance that can trigger explosive tigerfish attacks.

How to fish it:
Fish the STELLA on a floating line with an active, varied retrieve. Short, sharp strips with brief pauses make the fly dart and suspend just below the surface, while faster retrieves can imitate a fleeing baitfish. Work areas around shallow structure, weed edges, current seams, and feeding fish, keeping the fly moving and maintaining contact throughout the retrieve.

Best line pairing:
The STELLA is specifically suited to a floating fly line. A floating line keeps the fly in its intended shallow presentation and allows you to control its speed and movement directly from the surface. A short, powerful leader, usually 27- 30 lb fluorocarbon, with a strong bite tippet and a short bit of wire completes the setup and helps turn the fly over accurately.

Ideal setup: 7–9 wt rod • floating line (Airflo 40+/4 season) • short, powerful leader (30 lb Covert fluorocarbon) • strong bite trace (27lb piano or knottable wire)
