COVERT PURE FLUOROCARBON
Fluorocarbon is similar to mono-filament based fly fishing in terms of the manufacturing process, however the molecular makeup is far different. Fluorocarbon is noticeably heavier and denser, the properties of the lines makeup also allows for similar light reflecting properties as water, this in turn allows fluorocarbon to become almost invisible once submersed. Fluorocarbon is a harder line, and has a higher abrasion resistance, better feedback and less stretch when compared to nylon mono-filament lines.
The use of fluorocarbon is greatly appreciated when stalking skittish fish as well as when water is very clear and thin – great for trout|yellow fish in large still waters and thin streams where waters are very clear. One of the more uncommon known facts about fluorocarbon is that it tends to sink and does not lie on the surface of water like that of nylon mono-filaments – this a why it is not suitable to dry fly fishing* and will cause your flies to sink and continue sinking. If you switch to a dry fly be sure to change your tippet over to one of our Unreel Mono Tippets to ensure a greatly increased floating time.
**It should be noted that on fluorocarbon tippet ratings of 6X and 7X the physical weight and density in relation to the waters meniscus is now in the favor of the waters, meaning that generally these light weight tippets will also float on the waters surface like that of nylon mono-filament**
